Argentina training before the Worlds

Posted by Peter Csonka / Dec 7 / 5 Comments

This season is longer than others because of the late World Championships, which take a place in Argentina from end of November until the beginning of December. The small city San Juan hosted the World Cup in 2016 and now the World Championships will take place here. We traveled to San Juan four weeks in advance so we had time to train and get used to the water before the event starts. It took 36 hours to get there but we are finally here and enjoy the summer again. The playspot is surrounded by desert and the scenery is so beautiful.…

Final EuroCup in Prague

Posted by Peter Csonka / Sep 19 / 5 Comments

Pragues is well know not just because of its beautiful city but for its good and successful slalom kayak paddlers as well. They have pretty good base at Troja in Prague. Troja whitewater center is situated just behind the corner of the Zoo-biggest one in Europe. Troja slalom course is medium difficulty artificial channel. Mostly all year around you can see there slalom paddlers or rafters from all over the world. Unfortunately they have just few freestyle kayakers despite the conditions are very good. In the second half of the course you can find hole which perfectly suites to freestyle kayaking.…

EUROCUP #3 IN GRAZ

Posted by Peter Csonka / Aug 17 / 5 Comments

We are back home from Graz. We had five great weeks full of action, paddling and competing. Now we’ll stay home for two weeks to paddle on our whitewater course and enjoy our sweet home for a while. We have great facilities for paddling, cycling or swimming just few meters from our house. But back to Graz. It was the third event of the EuroCup. After weeks of training we were ready for competition. The hole was difficult but deep so after having paddled many shallow holes it was great change. Peter had nice runs in the finals and finished second. I also…

Euro trip 2017

Posted by Peter Csonka / Jul 16 / 5 Comments

This year freestyle competition season in Europe started quite late. Maybe because of it there were few events following each other. Our plan was to attend 6 events in six weeks. Straight after my successful PhD. title defense we packed all our gear into our home on the wheels and headed off to Germany. First stop was at Plattling to paddle for few days. Than we moved to Friedrichshafen for outdoor show and for Adidas team workshop and to meet our Adidas family. This is great event where you can see all new stuff for upcoming season and meet many great…

Pilsen freestyle 2017

Posted by Peter Csonka / Jun 6 / 5 Comments

Pilsen is Czech city well known because of its brewery and tasty beer named the same as city – Pilsen. Kayakers know it not only because of beer but because of their freestyle playspot which was build few years ago and is situated right after old mill. River is flowing thru narrow channel right from mill and at the end is hydraulic construction which is making hole. Water is falling from 1,5 high to pool and creating big and powerfull hole. Local kayakers organize freestyle event every year but we couldn’t make it there last three years because it always matched…

Trnavka x-race

Posted by Peter Csonka / Jun 6 / 5 Comments

Our first event of this year was Trnavka Xrace in Czech Republic. Trnavka is an artificial white water course known as most difficult one in Europe and it's quite long as well. This weekend we left our son with grandma at home so we had a bit of time just for ourselves and could paddle together. We arrived on Friday and went for evening session. It was my first time here and I was really surprised how good and funny it was. Many drops, eddies, fast lines and at the end of the course was one big drop falling into pool…

Corsica trip. My first trip to Corsica was 17 years ago. I was too young so my friends better asked for my mom permission. It was really awesome trip and it stayed in my heard as one of my most favorite destination. Since that I wanted to go back. I promised Nina to take her there already few years ago but we wasn’t lucky because there was no water. This year we decided to give it a chance. We packed all our white water gear, kayaks, food, baby gear and toys and left for our 10 days adventure. After 12 hours…

Our winter heaven - Ecuador

Posted by Peter Csonka / Feb 14 / 5 Comments

We are already back home from amazing Ecuador, sorting all photos and videos and all memories are coming back to us.  This trip was very special to me. It was my first time in Ecuador, first time without my son for two weeks! I run some difficult rivers (difficult for me of course), which I wouldn't run before. I even swam out of my kayak, it was after very long time. I was traveling with bus at 4040 meters above sea. That was unbelievable!  All this trip was a such a good experience. I think all of us had a blast!…

SAS Hurley Classic 2016

Posted by Peter Csonka / Nov 25 '16 / 5 Comments

Hurley’s kayak event is one of the oldest kayaks event. This year it was 27th year in a row! I've been at this event few times but it seems every year it's going bigger and bigger. This time there were more than 160 competitors just in freestyle! That is totally awesome and I am glad to see tat freestyle is still alive at least in UK. We came to UK in advance. The water levels for Hurley’s weir wasn't optimal so we moved to Nottingham to HPP. I really enjoyed paddling at HPP because it has nice stabile deep hole where…

Polish kayak freestyle championships

Posted by Peter Csonka / Sep 27 '16 / 5 Comments

This weekend there was probably one of the last freestyle event for us. Summer just end so the freestyle season. I never was paddling in Cracow so this was a great opportunity for it. We came two days in advance to get use to this specific hole. I can say it is quite difficult and very powerful to paddle. It took me few trainings to find best way how to throw the moves. It wasn't difficult only for women but for mens as well. After four training sessions my body was totally sore.  Our polish friend Bartosz and his family invited…

Austrian freestyle and cross championship in Graz

Posted by Peter Csonka / Sep 5 '16 / 5 Comments

One of our favorites play spots and also competitions of the year is in Graz. The local kayakers are so enthusiastic and really loving the sport, so they always made such a nice events where you just feel great. It's not only about competition but also about meeting all the friends and have really good time while kayaking. To get ready we left a bit earlier for some training. To get use to the hole you always need some time so we rather leave sooner and have some easy trainings as to come to late and being in stress if everything…

Lipno Devils Extreme Race

Posted by Peter Csonka / Aug 28 '16 / 5 Comments

Lipno area is well known amongst  paddlers from around whole world because of its white water. Water is released from dam and it is runable only by high flow which happens few times a year. Last week we and hundreds of other paddlers headed to Lipno Dam area. Water was released whole week but weekend was special as they put even more water out to river. Vltava’s section from Lipno dam is probably one of my most favorite whit water river section. The atmosphere there is amazing as well! I don’t like many people on the water at the same time but…

Lienz freestyle and cross

Posted by Peter Csonka / Jul 19 '16 / 5 Comments

Lienz is one of my favorite place in Austria. It is situated in a valley surrounded by glorious mountains. Me and Peter we visited it almost every year since 2005. It is well known amongst paddlers for its whitewater rivers but it hosted some international freestyle events like European Championships as well. The playspot on Drau river was rebuilt this winter because high water moved some stones and destroyed it. Now it is a very strong hole with two shoulders. We did one training on Friday. I was very surprised by its power and it was a big challenge for me.…

Last week me and Peter, we organized a kayaking event with freestyle, cross and sprint races, which was part of a festival at our slalom course. It was the fourth year in a row that we organized this event and we were able to compete in freestyle as well. It was nice small event where everybody had a chance to paddle and show their best. Me & Peter we took the first positions.  Next day we organized a kayak cross and sprint race. In this events we couldn't take part as we organized it just by ourselves. I can say…
